Overview:


Founded in 1891, The California Institute of Technology(Caltech) is located in Pasadena, the Northeast suburb of Los Angeles, California, about 11 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles. It is one of the world's top private research universities.

 

Founded by AMOS g. thread, the university is a preparatory and vocational school. Its mission is to "expand human knowledge and benefit society through research combined with education". It became the main center of American scientific research in the early 20th century and played an important role in American war efforts during the Second World War. Today, Caltech is a world-renowned scientific and engineering research and education institution. The Institute has high research results and many high-quality facilities, such as the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (owned by NASA), the Seismological Laboratory of Caltech and the international observatory network. It is one of the few technical colleges in the United States mainly devoted to teaching technical arts and applied science. Its fierce enrollment process ensures that only a few of the most talented students are admitted. Today, it is the site of the Einstein thesis project, which aims to protect, translate and publish selected papers from Albert Einstein's heritage. It has also set up an energy innovation center aimed at discovering revolutionary ways to produce fuel directly from sunlight.

 

Caltech's small 124 acre campus is only a few steps away from the old city of Pasadena and the Pasadena theater area, which are often visited by students. The school's full-time four-year undergraduate curriculum emphasizes the teaching of art and science. Caltech offers 24 majors and six minors in each of its six academic departments. The most popular majors are chemical engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and physics, but students can also choose humanities or social sciences as their majors, such as English, history or economics.


Caltech is a highly picky School: of its approximately 1000 undergraduate students, it enrolls only about 230 freshmen and 10 to 15 new transfer students each autumn. The admission rate is 8%, of which international students account for 9%. The ratio of male to female students is 46:54.


It's relatively easy to apply to Caltech. Applicants need to use specially customized Caltech questions to complete common or coalition applications (questbridge National College match is also acceptable), and submit an application fee of $75, standardized test scores (SAT and act), teacher assessment, middle school report, and academic transcript.


International students apply in the same way, but if their mother tongue is not English, or they do not study in an English school, they must also submit TOEFL scores.


The total estimated cost of attending Caltech is $68901 per academic year, including tuition, incidental expenses, accommodation, housing and personal expenses (although excluding health insurance). All students have access to financial assistance to help meet these substantial costs in the form of grants and scholarships, depending on their financial needs. There is also a "work study" arrangement in which a certain amount of money is allocated, and then students must earn it by working on campus.


In addition, loans are provided to allow students to borrow money and repay interest after leaving school. A limited amount of financial assistance is provided to all international students and distributed as needed.


After graduation, the median starting salary of Caltech alumni is one of the highest among other college or university graduates. About Postgraduate:


Caltech has six academic departments: biology and Bioengineering; Chemistry and chemical engineering; Engineering and Applied Sciences; Geology and Planetary Science; Humanities and Social Sciences; And physics, mathematics and astronomy.

Admission to the Graduate School of Caltech is granted only to a selected number of students. The admission process is conducted once a year and enrolled in the autumn. The applicant must have a bachelor's degree and submit the degree transcript, GRE standardized examination results, three letters of recommendation, a resume and the applicant's purpose statement. The Admissions Committee may also consider research papers, publications and other original works.


Candidates should submit their applications as early as possible. Those who already have a doctorate will not be considered. International candidates whose first language is not English need to submit IELTS or TOEFL scores to prove their language ability. The application fee is currently $100.


The cost of graduate education at Caltech varies. If tuition, mandatory fees, accommodation and utilities are taken into account, the total annual cost may be as high as $80917. However, most Caltech graduate students receive full funding for graduate education. In fact, about 99% of doctoral students receive full financial support in the form of scholarships, research grants, assistantships or a combination of scholarships and grants.


Financial assistance is usually awarded once a year and is based on satisfactory academic progress. Caltech is so generous with its financial aid that it doesn't even need to apply for financial aid alone. The only graduate students who do not receive financial assistance are those who pursue master's programs, who are in many cases self-sufficient.
