Stomatitis

[Symptoms]:

Cathartic stomatitis: catarrhal inflammation of the surface layer of the oral mucosa. The oral mucosa is flushed, swollen, hot, hyperesthesia, salivation, difficulty chewing, oral malodor, pale tongue surface, slow feeding by sick dogs.  Blister stomatitis: There is a transparent serous liquid in the submucosa of the oral cavity to form vesicular stomatitis. The oral mucosa is scattered with small rice grains and even soybean-sized blisters, which form an ulcer surface after the blisters rupture.  Ulcerative stomatitis: The gingival and buccal mucosa necrosis and ulcers show a tendency to spread, but the inflammation process does not form a pseudomembrane. Around the incisor and canine tooth neck, mainly between the teeth, the gums are dark red to blue-red swelling, painful, easy to bleed, and turn into yellow or yellow-green paste-like grease after 1-2 days. After the necrotic tissue falls off, it produces ulcers and gradually merges into the ulcer surface. The neck of the tooth is exposed and the teeth are loose. Successive teeth, buccal mucosa ulcers. The mouth smell is foul, drooling, and discharges foul-smelling tissue fragments and bloodshot eyes. Sick dogs are accompanied by systemic symptoms such as fever.

Fungal stomatitis: The oral mucosa forms soft, off-white, slightly raised spots, covered with a white pseudomembrane, and the ulcer surface remains after the pseudomembrane falls off. Sick dogs lose appetite and salivate. Systemic symptoms include fever, etc.

treatment:

First check the oral cavity, remove oral foreign bodies, tartar, sharp teeth, thorns, etc. Use 0.1% potassium permanganate solution, 2% boric acid solution, 2% alum solution to rinse the oral cavity, and finally wash the oral cavity once after each meal, after washing , Oral mucosa, gums, and buccal mucosa are coated with iodine glycerin (iodine tincture 10: glycerin 9) or methyl violet solution.

Pay attention to the treatment of primary diseases, properly strengthen nutrition, improve the body's resistance, give oral cod liver oil and vitamin C, the oral dose for dogs is 0.03-0.1 grams. In addition, yeast tablets (multivitamin B complex) or 0.1 g of niacin can be taken orally. For sick dogs who are at risk of developing sepsis, antibiotics should be used.

Periodontitis Symptoms:

Gum swelling, congestion, tenderness, purulent discharge, softening, salivation, loose teeth, difficulty chewing, loss of appetite.

 Treatment:

Remove the tartar, rinse the oral cavity with salt water, apply iodine glycerin, excise or electrocautery to remove the hypertrophic gum tissue, and remove the periodontal pocket. Correct food impaction between teeth. If the tooth becomes loose, it should be removed. When the periodontal abscess is formed, the abscess is incised and drained.

Pay attention to the treatment of nutritional disorders, such as calcium preparations, vitamin B, niacin, etc.

Pharyngitis    [symptoms]:

Acute pharyngitis: depression, increased body temperature, loss of appetite, difficulty swallowing, pain, trying to eat, but repeatedly interrupted, sometimes swallowing empty mouth, from time to time, scratching the head, shouting, salivation. Sometimes mixed with food, saliva and inflammatory products filth the nose from the nostrils. Palpation of the pharynx, vomiting, and sometimes coughing, swelling of the subjaw, back of the pharyngeal, and pharyngeal lymph nodes. Inspection of the throat revealed a soft palate, and tonsils were highly flushed, swollen, and covered with purulent materials. Cellulitis pharyngitis is accompanied by severe systemic symptoms.  Chronic pharyngitis: the course of the disease is long, the pharynx is painful on palpation, and swallowing only causes moderate dysphagia without pain. The posterior pharyngeal wall is mostly granular, covered with viscous mucus, and tonsils are enlarged. The lymph nodes under the jaw are slightly swollen.  Treatment:

Acute stage: Cut the hair of the pharynx, mix the Andres powder into a paste with vinegar or wine, apply it to the pharynx, spray it with water and moisten it when it is dry, and apply the medicine 3-4 times a day. After 2-3 days, apply ichthyol ointment to apply. Washing the mouth is an effective local treatment for pharyngitis. Use 0.1% potassium permanganate solution, 2% boric acid solution or 1%-2% alum solution to rinse the pharynx.

For sick dogs who cannot swallow, artificial nutrition is given, and 50-100ml of 25%-50% glucose solution is injected intravenously, twice a day. To replenish body fluids and sodium chloride, 5% glucose solution and normal saline can be injected intravenously, once a day. Antibiotics, such as penicillin, streptomycin, cephalosporin, and ampicillin, are given at the same time during the infusion.  In the inflammatory process of pharyngitis, gastric tube administration is prohibited during treatment.
